Copolla's 'The Godfather' films truly seem like a rare instance in which the written word (in this case a novel by Mario Puzo) translates perfectly into visual images and montage interpretations. 'The Godfather' , as novel gone film, is a shapeshifter.
On another note, John Carpenter credits his imagined blockbuster killing machine as 'the shapeshifter' in his 'Halloween' film ending credits and in all of his reflective commentary on that film. Two absolute classics. Both are killer. So weird.
That said- I watched 'Mistress America' last night and not any of the aforementioned. How's that for stabbing grace?
Bye again.
