16mm print, 1970's 'dubbed' cinema

A 16mm'dubbed' print of 'The Pink Telephone' -  rare 70's indie French cinema. The irony is that this aged print's nitrocellulose and camphor chemistry has turned the movie - pink (a very nice consequence), bye...

 A Gaumont International [fr] production.

The Gaumont Film Company is a French mini-major film studio founded by the engineer-turned-inventor Léon Gaumont (1864–1946), in 1895. It is the first and oldest film company in the world, founded before other studios such as Pathé (founded in 1896), Titanus (1904), Nordisk Film (1906), Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures (both founded in 1912). Gaumont predominantly produces, co-produces, and distributes films, and in 2011, 95% of Gaumont's consolidated revenues came from the film division.

 1. Frozen soda cans burst primarily because of the gas pressure, and primarily due to the expansion of the ice.

 2. If they do explode, what is the origin of the stalagmite-like structures on the sides of the freezer afterwards if you got them on sale by the 12 pack?

 3. What makes a soda can burst? The critical item is the solubility of CO2 in ice as compared to the solubility in water if the ration of calories is not consistent with the gallons of water taken from your neighbor's haunted water well.

***  The bottom line is that all exploding cans of soda are unfortunate, loud, creepy as hell and a waste of hard earned money.

4. Next time buy Sunkist.

Whit. on screenwriting. in Memphis (and NYC: hint, hint)

So interesting how Whit Stillman (Metropolitan, Barcelona, Last Days of Disco) used a copy of the script for The Big Chill as his learning tool device to begin screenwriting. This is truly such a great, honest, funny, comprehensive and informative interview I have posted above. Whit is now working on an Amazon.com series proposal titled, 'Cosmopolitans' and is back and forth with ideas and possibilities.  I hung with Whit last week to bounce around some potential ideas and things are brewing in the kettle. Stay tuned.

bye (meaning, for now).

On Lampedusa,

Such a powerful film document. The static long takes, composition framings and ultra-slo camera pans are astounding and the editorial language speaks in a universal tongue. This is such a beautifully shot film to look at, and despite its gradual depictions of death and physical suffering the balance it seams with 'hope' makes this visual exodus comprehensible - still absorbing this. Gorgeous. bye.

Simon says, ask Siri ...

Gee thanks Siri, I wish I never asked you crap. bye.
