NOTE TO SELF_ Ballarat is an unincorporated community in Inyo County, California. It lies at an elevation of 1079 feet! Today, Ballarat is a virtual ghost town. It was founded in 1896 as a supply point for the mines in the canyons of the Panamint Range. NOw, there's essentially nuthin' there but tumble weeds and wood.
