Hell was robbed.
Just finished 'HELL OR HIGH WATER' and can confirm now that Ben Foster was robbed (no pun intended since he's a bank robber in the film) of an Oscar nomination. This film was so good, sooooo Texas, and Ben Foster blew me away (again, not a pun). Foster really should have been nominated for his character performance. At least the film has a Best Picture nod for next week. Flyover country, and all of the issues that got Trump his loyal following, are in this crazy modern-day cowboys and indians movie. Ben Foster for President 2020- cocked and loaded! bye.

Peanuts without Charlie Brown.
The editor for the political documentary '13th' was paid a measly $1500. That's it. yup. Nuts. And kinda insulting based on all of the hours of work he committed to that project (a work that's now nominated for an Oscar). At least they offered him a 'Producer' credit to compensate further, I reckon. Still, a very sad state of affairs for all of us in the creative bubble. bye.

Jerry Trivia: Though never a Communist, Jerry Fielding was called before the House Un-American Activities Committee in December 1953 during the anti-Communist hysteria which gripped the rightwing Republicans, particularly in Congress and the FBI, who were in the throes of punishing the many talented FDR supporters in entertainment who had helped to defeat the pro-Fascist isolationists before Pearl Harbor. This was done by smearing them with innuendo and charges of Communism. Fielding's sin appeared to be his Radio Union membership (which was obligatory for all nationally broadcast radio performers) which was in turn one of a dozen or more unions in the Hollywood Writers Mobilzation which was founded in 1941 to promote show business efforts against Nazism and in support of the American war effort. However, Fielding later joked that all the committee really wanted was to get him to name Groucho Marx as a communist, which he refused, of course, to do. He also believed he was being singled out for his integrated bands, using African-American jazz performers in his radio and television music, which was carried live at the time. All integration and equal rights to black performers were deeply offensive to the notoriously racist HUAC members, and to FBI head, J. Edgar Hoover, leading the anti-Communist witch-hunts.
Fielding took the Fifth Amendment, refusing to divulge the names of any colleagues who might be suspected of "Communism," doing so knowing that pleading the Fifth would damage his thriving radio and television career, as it did. He was blacklisted by the national television and radio networks, who were being pressured by these same pro-Fascist forces with a similar fate if they 'failed to cooperate."
The blacklist destroyed Fielding's embryonic career as an on-screen television host, but the talented musician survived what would be a decade-long exile from broadcasting by returning to his live performing and recording careers, both as a featured artist and a freelance arranger. bye.

Faro? Hmmmmmlookslike interesting place to visit . I remember when I first discovered Bergman's work and reading about his relationship with Faro island and how he explained that he had moved there permanently, after he had been harassed and targeted by false tax evasion issues and faced a bogus trial that stressed him out to the point of needing to be hospitalized(http://www.nytimes.com/1976/03/16/archives/ingmar-bergmans-taxes-swedes-brood-over-case-ingmar-bergmans-taxes.html). He stayed for the rest of his life living on Faro for its peacefulness and isolation vibe. He also shot many of his films right there on the tiny island's empty beaches. And when he died, he got buried there, too.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's rendition (on-screen performance) of Edward Snowden in Oliver Stone's SNOWDEN is absolutely astounding. Not sure why I waited so long to see it, this film is not only informative beyond CITIZENFOUR, but to hear how Levitt nailed Ed Snowden's voice and facial mannerism's is total 'holy cow' stuff. And yeah, you're correct in thinking that the movie SNOWDEN has no association with the painted wall seen above, unless the NSA has it under watch too. I'm certain that Google Maps does, cuz I just saw the little Google mobile drive by with the weird 360 degree camera recorder on top of it. bye.
Lowery: Ain't them Bodies Ghosts
The film 'A Ghost Story' has been completely shot and now is in its post-production stage (i.e. editing), having stayed months hidden away from any possible leaks or public knowledge. I imagine that the hide was intentional in order to enhance its hopeful 'BOO!' factor. Maybe Lowery was aiming for a Supreme Court seat nomination with this one, who (pronounced: boo) knows. bye.
