P.S.  r.i.p. Dan O'Bannon- pioneer special FX master of 'Dark Star', and also the film editor of John Carpenter's first work (edited using a 1940's Moviola). Dan also acted in John's first film. The collapse of Alexandro's 'Dune' left Dan broke, homeless and dependent of friends for his survival. While living with a friend he came up with an idea and wrote the script for the classic sic-fi horror film, 'Alien' which became a hit and he finally made a career for himself. He supervised the special fx for 'Alien' during film production and when Dan died of Crohn's Disease in 2009 he credited his experiences with Crohn's for inspiring the chest-bursting scene from 'Alien.'

Where who what and when - Moore.

I don't like Michael Moore, at all. I don't like what he has done to documentary cinema (turning it into a silly genre and commercial industry) and I don't like what he did to Heston knowing that the man was ill. But, I must say that Moore's new work, 'where to invade next' is truly remarkable, moving and strong (and also operates as a vacation travel guide). His latest film is well-edited, thoughtul and carefully constructed as a faux documentary routine. Total thumbs up on this one. It's not mean-spirited, and it's kinda sad. Bye.

Jones’ father Richard Jones spoke from the heart in court expressing the family’s disappointment but also saying that they hoped they could all put this behind them. “When [Sarah’s mother] Elizabeth and I agreed to this plea, it was our understanding that he would be serving two years in jail for the negligence happened during the movie's film production. If had we understood that it would have been one year, we would not have agreed,” he said. “I want to be clear that we don’t want to inflict — we don’t mean to inflict more pain to Mr. Miller’s family. We understand that … can imagine it’s been quite a lot of pain for their family, but this is, in our view, about a bigger purpose. It’s about making the film industry a better, safer place. And in order to do so, we feel very strongly that this is an important element that Mr. Miller be held fully accountable for what he did.” He said he and his wife Elizabeth were “disappointed in what is being done here today.”

The shoot ran too long and over budget, the script was still being written as scenes were filmed, the young director Steven friggin' Spielberg woke up every day fearing he would get fired, and the mechanical shark built for the movie sank to the bottom of the ocean. And yet, 40 years ago this summer, people lined up around the block and around the world to get scared silly by "Jaws," widely seen as the first summer blockbuster. A horror story wrapped in an adventure, the movie tapped into our deepest fears about what dangers lurk beneath the ocean's surface. Some people told screenwriter Carl Gottlieb that the movie, about a giant shark terrorizing a summer resort town, even made them afraid to venture into swimming pools. Yes, the fake shark looks a little cheesy now. But in 1975, long before computers could create any spectacle onscreen, it was plenty terrifying.
