I was surprised to have been so deeply affected by this documentary, BLACKFISH. So many stories of this genre have hit the indie movie screens already, but this one truly bites hard (yes, that pun is intended). The capturing of baby orca whales and how they are used (males) as sperm banks for a marketing empire of entertainment parks is sickening (i.e. Seaworld). As highly emotionally developed mammals (scientific studies rank these particular whales as more emotionally developed than us) it should come as no big surprise that 5000 lbs of solid matter can get pretty sick and tired of a small tank prison sentence (life sentences without parole). Dawn's family chose not to speak in this film because they have chosen to place their energy into a foundation meant to honor the name and life's work of their loved one. That family's decision is an honorable one. The film is really about politics, and that is the reason it is so very hard to watch. bye.
