Under the recommendation of the great Buck Sexton, I have just watched and am completely blown away (no pun meant) by Peter Jackson's film that is a beyond belief restoration of war footage shot by hand wind cameras during World War 1. The film is moving, epic and extraordinary and a perfect thing to experience on a Memorial Day Weekend. One witnesses this film and is reminded that a century is truly not that long ago, and most of our grandparents and great grandparents most probably were captured by some camera on some trenches these years ago. This is not the soldiers story, it is ours. We truly are a spoiled society with great disregard for the many lives sacrificed and lost for our freedom. I cannot recommend this film enough- and if any blog reader has access to iTUNES, be sure to watch the 30 minute 'Making Of' piece in which Peter Jackson explains how he restored all of the footage, dialogue, sound by mere ingenuity and patience. Spectacular is what this movie is. Spectacular.
