Execution by firing squad, in the past sometimes called fusillading (from the French fusil, rifle), is a method of capital punishment, particularly common in the military and in times of war. Execution by shooting is a fairly old practice. Some reasons for its use are that firearms are usually readily available and a gunshot to a vital organ, such as the brain or heart, most often will kill relatively quickly.
A firing squad is normally composed of several military personnel, all of whom are usually instructed to fire simultaneously, thus preventing both disruption of the process by one member and identification of the member who fired the lethal shot. To avoid disfigurement due to multiple shots to the head, the shooters are typically instructed to aim at the heart, sometimes aided by a paper or cloth target. The prisoner is typically blindfolded or hooded, as well as restrained, although in some cases prisoners have asked to be allowed to face the firing squad without their eyes covered. Media portrayals have frequently shown the condemned being offered a final cigarette as well. Executions can be carried out with the condemned either standing or sitting. There is a tradition in some jurisdictions that such executions are carried out at first light or at sunrise. This gave rise to the phrase "shot at dawn". bye.

Just watched a new experimental film titled, WHAT WE SHARED. Highly recommend it, as it speaks about the displacement of people and horrific experiments led by Stalin's insane Soviet communist regime. Stalin even had a monkey academy meant to cross breed humans with chimps in order to create a new kind of warrior for Soviet war and rule.

IMAX 70mm format cameras are now being designed
IMAX has formally announced that it has begun developing its next generation of film cameras, with plans to release the first of 4 new cameras in late 2023. The company is working with Panavision, Kodak, and FotoKem on the project to integrate camera maintenance, film stock manufacturing, and post-production services.
The new models are expected to be an improvement over IMAX’s current offering of cameras that utilize their proprietary 65mm film. The new cameras will be quieter, with a series of new features added to enhance usability. In addition to the four new cameras, many existing IMAX cameras and lenses are expected to be updated and improved.
If that was not exciting enough, the company will be collaborating with some of Hollywood’s top visual artists on the camera designs. Major directors including Christopher Nolan and Jordan Peele will weigh in on the new film cameras, as will top cinematographers including Hoyte van Hoytema (“Tenet”), Linus Sandgren (“No Time To Die”), Rachel Morrison (“Black Panther”), Bradford Young (“Arrival”), and Dan Mindel (“Star Trek”). Combined, those filmmakers account for many of the most acclaimed large-scale movies shot on film in recent years, in addition to even more that were shot digitally.

Academy Award ceremony blowback is coming.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced in late February that eight categories would be removed from this year's live telecast: best original score, film editing, production design, makeup and hairstyling, sound, documentary short subject, live action short film and animated short film. Instead, those awards will be given out in a taped ceremony before the telecast begins, which will then be quickly edited and broadcast as truncated clips during the live show. (A similar idea was suggested in 2019 but abandoned after fierce backlash.)
The academy also announced #OscarsFanFavorite and #OscarsCheerMoment, two fan-voted categories whose winners, selected online, will be announced during the ceremony (and its voters entered into a sweepstakes with prizes ranging from free movie tickets to giving out an award at the 2023 event).
These moves come after a decade of declining viewership - last year's telecast was the lowest-rated in history - which has found the academy making or proposing several changes, including the expansion of best picture nominees from 5 to 10 and the quickly retracted plan in 2018 to have a popular film category.
ABC, which owns the broadcast rights for the Oscars, jointly made the decision to shake up this year's ceremony with the academy, according to a person familiar with network discussions. Representatives from the academy did not respond to multiple requests for comment from The Washington Post.
"The academy is looking to get a bigger audience, but I don't think they know where the audience is," Heim said.
Guilds such as the Cinema Audio Society, the Society of Composers and Lyricists, the Alliance for Women Film Composers and the Set Decorators Society of America, have released statements urging the academy to reverse course. A letter to AMPAS President David Rubin signed by more than six dozen film professionals - including industry titans such as James Cameron, Kathleen Kennedy, Guillermo del Toro and John Williams - stated that the decision is "valuing some filmmaking disciplines over others and relegating those others to the status of second-class citizen."
It's going to be fun to watch how this whole thing unravels. Sad what folks will do to the fragility of their integrity for the temporal notion of a 'higher rating'. Sitting at a diner, and I've just lost my appetite. bye.

The Penguin 2022
So I saw THE BATMAN last night at its opening and actor Colin Farrell's PENGUIN character stole the movie. He's so good and only at the beginning stages of this character's development into becoming a lead villain in this new Matt Reeve's movie series. Farrell is SO good! A world class scumbag! And, the film's lighting, color grading and soundscape are phenomenal. There will never be another THE DARK KNIGHT, but this movie comes awfully close. Actor Paul Dano was great too (as THE RIDDLER). See this one in a theatre with a crowd- not at home streaming, as it's made for the big silver screen with strangers all surrounding ya. Bye.

HULU versus NETFLIX- HULU episodically winning.
And HULU released this week, and it's absolutely brilliant ! ...
Listen, I don't know what the hell is going on over at HULU board meetings, but damn if they have not taken the trophy for 'KILLIN' IT' with the best original movies and episodic series around. This new THE DROPOUT is sooooooooo good. The writing. The performances. The Everything! HULU, in my humble opinion, has kicked NETFLIX's ass all over the 'metaverse' concrete. HULU is worth every single monthly subscription penny!
