Acoustic ecology / phonography published article...

http://soundexplorations.blogspot.com/2012/11/phonography-joey-huertas-hurricane-sandy.html

"Acoustic ecology, sometimes called soundscape ecology, is the relationship, mediated through sound, between living beings and their environment. Acoustic ecology studies started in the late 1960s with R. Murray Schafer and his team at Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, Canada) as part of the World Soundscape Project."

"The first study produced by the WSP was titled The Vancouver Soundscape. The interest in this area grew enormously after this pioneer and innovative study and the area of acoustic ecology raised the interest of researchers and artists all over the world. In 1993 the members of the by now large and active international acoustic ecology community formed the World Forum For Acoustic Ecology."

Sandy Soundscape Project (1:10) The recent hurricane named "Sandy" struck the NE region of the United States costing both lives and extreme destruction of property. Phonographer Joey Huertas captured some of sound during the height of the storm as it moved in land. Huertas, an avant-garde film artist, will use these recordings in a new ecology soundscape work.

Jane's new 3M overhead projector

It was love at first sight. and poor little Jane had thought that these clunky clanky machines had gone extinct after high school. WRONG. bye.

R.I.P.

You beat the streets bro, even if you weren't born in da Bronx.
You inspired so many kids to follow their dreams.
I won't forget you buddy and still wish I coulda had you on my caseload.

Repairs

Dear Jane, The Boss sound FX harmonizer pedal machine works fine. I took it apart and it looked OK. I noticed the circuit board is very well made and appears to be highly microprocessor oriented...

...this tells me the red power LED is likely controlled by the microprocessor and notjust by power being applied.Sure enough when I plugged in my wife Margie's guitar and amp the red LED came on. In fact whether the LED on or out depends on what mode is set and whether the pedal is up or down. The LED is more of a mode indicator than a power light.I also discovered the screw for the pedal should be in all the time (engaged in the slot). The screw is only loosened to change the 9V battery. The pedal pressure seems heavy but I'm assuming by foot it's correct. I played with it a little. I don't know exactly what to expect from each mode but they seem to be working OK.

I will deliver the machine back to you for your art installation piece. Bye for now, Dennis Dunkin.

analog resistance + cine-techno-fiend laptops

p.s. and watching the Russian film, ELENA now (on my very non-analog Macbook Pro).

Elena? Tell me about Elena, Jane. Okay. Basically, Elena and Vladimir are an older couple, they come from different backgrounds. Vladimir is a wealthy and cold man, Elena comes from a modest milieu and is a docile wife. They have met late in life and each one has children from previous marriages. Elena's son is unemployed, unable to support his own family and he is constantly asking Elena for money. Vladimir's daughter is a careless young woman who has a distant relationship with her father. A heart attack puts Vladimir in hospital, where he realizes that his remaining time is limited...
A brief but somehow tender reunion with his daughter leads him to make an important decision: she will be the only heiress of his wealth. Back home he announces it to Elena. Her hopes to financially help her son suddenly vanish. The shy and submissive housewife then comes up with a plan to give her son and grandchildren a real chance in life.

and my laptop keys glow. wow.

Tonight at Anthology Film Archives: 6:30pm tonight !

Shohei Imamura's film, A MAN VANISHES (1967)

On the face of it, a documentary about
an ordinary man who disappears without trace,
leaving his job and fiancee behind,
Imamura takes the narrative in unexpected directions,
               causing the viewer to question
what is reality and what might be fiction

Spaniards, nightmare family evictions and their ailing banks seek help :(

MADRID — Spain's banks announced Monday they will freeze mortgage-related evictions for two years in cases of extreme need as a public outcry mounted over suicides by desperate homeowners.
The lenders reacted after two suicides in 15 days by indebted homeowners facing expulsion in Spain, where both banks and borrowers were hammered by a 2008 property crash.
The deaths shocked a country already weary of tough austerity measures in the midst of recession and record unemployment, and the news sent thousands into the streets in anti-bank protests.
As the uproar grew, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's right-leaning government was to hold a rare meeting with the opposition Socialists to discuss proposals to combat the evictions crisis.

Terrible. Sickening. A demonstation of poor leadership across the board.

p.s. and rehearsals are in progress ...
