Not sure if Star Wars is the first Sci-Fi film ever made (doubt it), but the first horror film ever made. was The Haunted Castle (1896) Directed by Georges Méliès Georges Méliès, a French filmmaker known for his landmark film "a Trip to the Moon" from 1902 which is kinda Sci-Fi.  Méliès shot the mansion of the devil, or the haunted castle, in 1896, which many now consider the first horror movie. In this three minute film, a bat flies into a medieval castle, turns into mephistopheles, then gets chased away by a crucifix. There you have it, the essential ingredients of the vampire movie. Keep in mind that this was made and hand processed 118 years ago!  ...
