Films, Mutter and Experimental Deformities
Memento Macabre: Sketches from the Mütter Museum
"Through the Weeping Glass" by The Brothers Quay colour, B/N, USA 31’ 2011
“The Deformity of Beauty- A Last Dance with the Mütter Maidens” by Valentina Lari B/N, USA/UK 20’ 2011
A showing of two experimental films shot and created entirely around the pathological collection of the world renowned Mütter Museum in Philadelphia, with a discussion of the process, the ethical approach and difficulties that visual artists have when working with human remains and medical institutions for a project. And, from a more strictly cinematic point of view, discuss the visual choices and solutions that were eventually chosen for the making of the films...

Looking for a better understanding
The film "Looking for Fidel" is great. In a series of sit-down interviews Oliver Stone hits Castro with hard questions about political repression, American-sponsored terrorism and other touchy subjects. Apparently nothing was off limits. Castro responds with vigor, humor and not one iota of defensiveness.
The film is only an hour long, but it’s so jammed with information it could hardly hold any more. It’s probably not going to change anyone’s view of Castro, but “Looking for Fidel” humanizes him in ways that no previous film has.

Russian Wind Storms
Q: How does Jane Public create or improvise a good quality mobile cellphone field-recording sound system for capturing beach waves activity in order to manipulate these sounds and make them sound like russian winds without any interference of terrible overmodulation (i.e. harsh & distorted sound)?
A: By using a better sound recorder and microphone next time Jane. As simple as that... Bye.

Translation of WIND (Russian to English language)
poem: Boris Pasternak
I am finished, but you're alive
And the wind complaining and crying
is rocking the forest and the house
Not every pine tree separately by the entire mass
Over the endless vista
Like the masts of sailboats over calm anchorage
And it is not out of boisterousness or an aimless rage
But out of longing to find words for your lullaby song
For your lullaby song.
And the wind complaining and crying
is rocking the forest and the house
Not every pine tree separately by the entire mass
Over the endless vista
Like the masts of sailboats over calm anchorage
And it is not out of boisterousness or an aimless rage
But out of longing to find words for your lullaby song
For your lullaby song.

Support the Cinema Buying Group: Save our theaters
Allen Hinkle closed his Bonham Theater in Fairbury, Neb., on Aug. 2, after he couldn't sell the operation or attract enough donations.
It would cost $110,000 to install digital equipment in the 86-year-old theater, a brick structure featuring four large arched windows only a half block from the county courthouse.
Former movie house now converted into a dry cleaners !

Oogielove ?
(See Bear Blogs 8/24 7/26)
My bear Simpleton pooped in the front area of the movie theatre parking lot yard after seeing the new film, "Oogieloves." I apologize for this. I'm really sorry. After the swimming pool ordeal on 8/24 (see old blogs), and the reprimand lecture I gave to JaneyJane and Cocoa Puffs about their behaviours at the pool, I am saddened. Be sure my Blog fans, I will not give up on my three bears and our ongoing circus training, but if I pay good hard-earned money to see a good popcorn movie that is meant to entertain all of the four of us, then I need to up the ante regarding acceptable punishment.
First, I will clip an "I HAVE ISSUES" pin on the hairy backs of all of my three bears (this will teach them a lesson while humiliating them for their reprehensible ways. A good plan and first start). Then No More Hot Dogs at the movies! I mean business this time. I will not give up. Like the Obama guy is saying in North Carolina this week at the DNC, ... FOWARD! WE WILL MOVE FOWARD!
Tough Love baby, and there's nothing "Oogie" about it. BYE!
I am renting a Cuarto Grande (big room) with a stipend award I have received to assist me with the bear discipline that is now officially required. I will "break them in" in the cuarto grande. And I will keep you guys (i.e. Blog Fans) posted.

I'm remembering ANDY KAUFMAN today:( 1949-1984
There was only one Andy. Gawd Bless him. Jane is gonna celebrate and eat cookies for him today.

p.s. Only Andy could get away wit wrestling women and doing this kinda crazy shit. lol bye?

Kaufman welcomed hate mail. Be it love mail or hate mail, he cherished it. “He loved real reactions,” best friend and bastard dog child Jane Public said. “Animosity was theater to him.”
"By the way, who is this freakin' Jane Public looney tune anyways? It calls itself my friend? Sounds like a mutt name to me. What the hell is a Jane Public? That almost rhymes with diarreah."
Bye. Morons.

Muggle Your Public Persona
Muggle, a term from the Harry Potter book series by J. K. Rowling, refers to a person who lacks any sort of magical ability and was not born into the magical world of Jane Public. The terms "Muggle" and "Jane Public" are sometimes used in a pejorative manner. Since "Muggle" refers to a person who is a member of the non-magical Jane Public community. You Idiot. Moron. Senseless Dummy. Poof. Bye.
p.s. I saw the doc film, SMASH HIS CAMERA. It was really great. Inspiring story about a passionate photographer and an honest putz (quote from one of his subjects, "People like this are boils on the ass of humanity")

Destruction in Art Symposium - TATE MODERN
Keen transformed cinema into a riotous collage of comics, drawings, B-movie posters, plastic toys, burning props and extravagant costumes. His early 8mm and 16mm films are built for speed, combining footage of Beat-era motifs – jazz, motorbikes and car culture – with experimental animations in which the achievements and atrocities of the 20th century seem to flash by within a few short, cacophonous seconds. A single frame could not contain the frenzied energy of Keen’s imagination, and by the mid-1960s he began to use multiple screens and live action in presentations of his work.
Brighton-based Jeff Keen (1923-2012) was one of Britain’s most unique cultural voices, a pioneer in experimental film who transformed art and cinema through a vivid sensibility fuelled by surrealism, comics and B-movies. A veteran of the Second World War, Keen’s work is a powerful evocation of the violence, colour, speed and noise of the 20th century. His rapid-fire animations, multiple screen projections and raucous performances redefined multimedia art in the UK. This major installation, conceived by Keen in response to the unique nature of the Tanks space, and a series of events will draw on Keen’s early experiments in drawing, painting and animation, his fascination with surrealism and popular culture, and his radical development of expanded cinema, cut-up soundtracks and unruly live action.

Keen’s films and performances emerged within the climate of literary happenings and ‘bomb culture’ at Bob Cobbing’s Better Books in Charing Cross as well as Gustav Metzger’s 1966 Destruction in Art Symposium. Recalling American underground films by Jack Smith, Ken Jacobs and Kenneth Anger, his work also resonates with Happenings, Fluxus and Viennese Actionism. Nothing stands still in his work, it is a constant process in which images and sounds evolve in quick succession through what Keen calls ‘violently disconnected and overlapping patterns’ of destruction, creation and accumulation.

On set with a live NINJA fighter
1) TIP OF THE DAY: When all else fails, hire yourself a Ninja Warrior.
2) TELL YOURSELF TODAY: OMG, what in the hell is Jane up to now.
3) FACT: Jane glued him (Ninja) to the ground to keep him from breaking into the nearby residential areas (the Ninja was outta control). Glad that the day is over because Jane now has a serious headache.
p.s. today I was seriously approached by two young couples who nervously asked me if I was Cris Angel, and if they could get my autograph and a picture quickly without disturbing me. ..Last month I was told by a restaurant that I looked like Steven Tyler. All I keep saying to myself is "where are all of my freakin' royalty checks going?"

Big snore with Marion and Francois keeping folks awake
François Cluzet and Marion Cotillard made the film worth sitting through. A French wannabe "The Big Chill" kinda thing. It is the superb acting that kept this film alive (for me)
Long, but with a few great moments. Custom-built for Oscar season (and probably made for that reason alone)
