'debt collector'  NYC, 2017

darn.

I really hope Mr. T doesn't fire Spicey next week. Seems that Spicey is next on the chopping block. Darn it.  Daily Spicey press briefings are better than any sitcom out there today (and in years). This really sucks. They should hire Melissa McCarthy if he gets canned this week. Fingers are crossed. bye.

Congrats Steve, great review and great photography work (as always). A small quote for you inspired by Scorcese's Travis Bickle aka Taxi Driver ... "Someday a real gentrification will come and wash all this urban blight off the streets." bye.

Cinema is gone,” Scorsese says. “The cinema I grew up with and that I’m making, it’s gone. “The theatre will always be there for that communal experience, there’s no doubt. But what kind of experience is it going to be?” he continues. “Is it always going to be a theme-park movie? The big screen for us in the ’50s, you go from Westerns to Lawrence of Arabia to the special experience of 2001 in 1968. The experience of seeing Vertigo and The Searchers in VistaVision.”
Scorsese points to the proliferation of images and the over-reliance on superficial techniques as trends that have diminished the power of cinema to younger audiences. “It should matter to your life,” he says. “Unfortunately the latest generations don’t know that it mattered so much.”
The future of movies, he believes, is in the freedom that technology has yielded for anyone to make a movie.

Excellent interview with Penelope Spheeris

Watching' 'The Decline of Western Civilization' with Dave Grohl doin' its film commentary and it's really great. Such a great doc film by Penelope Spheeris in all of its glorious raw editing and non-glamorous lightbulb (literally) lighting approach. I still have very mixed feelings about Grohl and the sell-out choices that he's made since Kurt died, but he did a really good job on talking throughout this movie. I imagine he must have felt like he was on a well $$$ paid memory-lane trip to his teenager years- lucky him. I wonder if he misses his childhood neighborhood lawnmower jobs and the difference in that pay rate, probably not. bye.

Lexicon Devil.

"Lexicon Devil is, pure and simple, the finest volume on punk to have seen the light of print. (Yes, folks: that includes Please Kill Me.) Great book!"—Richard Meltzer
 * Production has started on the documentary feature based on the book.

Burt Reynolds calls ACTION!

Bob Gosse's 'The Shooting Gallery' film company flier

Original copy of a scanned flier used to promote the indie classic 16mm film 'Laws of Gravity' before social media became our new world order of marketing reality. 'Laws of Gravity' was distributed in the 90's at a time that independent cinema was reemerging at theaters everywhere, and before corporate greed and hubris ultimately killed the passion of folks like these who created The Shooting Gallery (self-made DIY film production and distribution company) were forced to go into early retirement.  Bob Gosse and Nick rule and were Purchase Film School alumni !

Spicey's Powerpoint presentation

Sean Spicer is literally running a border wall slideshow now at his daily press briefing to answer a question. Sorry, Spicey rules. Not sure who is more funny & adorable, Melissa McCarthy or Spicey. CNN is becoming the most entertaining network around.  Bye.

Brakhage discussing his 'creative process.'

Shot shortly before Stan's death (of cancer) in his bedroom.
And btw, there is nothing more annoying than having your film reel fall to the ground and get accidently unspooled.

Arts and politics.

Debra is back 'on fleek.'

Six o'clock already I was just in the middle of a dream I was kissin' Valentino By a crystal blue Italian stream But I can't be late 'Cause then I guess I just won't get paid These are the days When you wish your bed was already made It's just another manic Monday I wish it was Sunday 'Cause that's my fun day My I don't have to run day It's just another manic Monday Have to catch an early train Got to be to work by nine And if I had an air-o-plane I still couldn't make it on time 'Cause it takes me so long Just to figure out what I'm gonna wear Blame it on the train.  - Manic Monday, The Bangles.
