Cleaning up around the apt and found this post card. My birthday was oct 4th, and one of my outstanding bosses debuted his film trailer for his work of art 'Girlstories' at a film festival later that month. It was the first trailer i was ever featured in, and hopefully the first of many. This post card represents the best present i've recieved so far-i was featured at a film festival. Thank you, Joey! I love you!

I'm watchin, THE STORE !

The Store (1983), Wiseman's first color film, at first glance appears to depart from the typical "weighty" subject matter of most of his previous films. That, however, is deceptive. For while the institution under scrutiny, the world-famous Neiman-Marcus department store in Dallas, Texas, may seem to be light-weight material, Wiseman's treatment of the activities of store employees and the mostly wealthy customers ultimately reveals the shallow lives of America's economic elite and those who service them. Conspicuous consumption is everywhere in evidence. The clientele while away days in the store's dressing rooms, trying on expensive gowns and furs. A compliant group of saleswomen are led in smile exercises as they prepare to meet their condescending customers. The bourgeoisie and proletariat are complicit in this sordid dance of money and unproductive leisure. The Store stands in stark and powerful contrast to the despair depicted in Welfare.

SHAPING PLANTS (like gourds and branches)

plant house was great. surprised cuz i intended to simply see and photograph a frozen (ice cold weather, DUH) boathouse. many houses in the Plant Conservatory like: Cool Temperate, Science Plants, Palm House, Cool Genetics, COld Storage, Physiology House, Succulent House, Potting Room, and in the lobby a Gourd Art Show... WTF & whatintheHELL. It was Awesome. creative sculptures made out of vegetation. fences made out of manipulating branches and trees. i was blown away and it was freezing outside so it was very nice to stroll through the warm planthouses and feel almost sweaty as the staff emphatically recommended to me that i remove my winter coat. it didnt happen, coat stayed on. i snapped many cellFone pics with my ANDROID. hope you love exploiting my life by living vicariously thorough my blogs. maybe one day you also will get out of the house and walk around a hothouseplantgreenhouse. only God knows. BYE.

sad news that KODAK Inc. has declared bankruptcy this week. but the film artist will move foward BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. If we gotta (as visual artists) make cameras and film stock outta wood and cardboard then SO BE IT. WE WILL MOVE FOWARD. WE WILL MAKE OUR STUFF. AND WE WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED. PERIOD.

POoWERuL show AT MoMA...GO

The first museum exhibition in the United States of the work of Sanja Iveković (b. 1949, Zagreb) covers four decades of the artist's remarkable career. A feminist, activist, and video pioneer, Iveković came of age in the post-1968 period, when artists broke free from mainstream institutional settings, laying the ground for a form of praxis antipodal to official art. Part of the generation known as the Nova Umjetnička Praksa (New Art Practice), Iveković produced works of cross-cultural resonance that range from conceptual photomontages to video and performance.

This exhibition brings together a historic group of single-channel videos and media installations, including Sweet Violence (1974), Personal Cuts (1982), Practice Makes a Master (1982/2009), General Alert (Soap Opera) (1995), and Rohrbach Living Memorial (2005). Among the 100 photomontages featured in the exhibition is Iveković's celebrated series Double Life (1975–76), for which the artist juxtaposed pictures of herself culled from her private albums with commercial ads clipped from the pages of women's magazines.

While in the 1970s Iveković probed the persuasive qualities of mass media and its identity-forging potential, after 1990—following the fall of the Berlin Wall, the disintegration of Yugoslavia, and the birth of a new nation—she focused on the transformation of reality from socialist to post-socialist political systems. Iveković offers a fascinating view into the official politics of power, gender roles, and the paradoxes inherent in society's collective memory. The exhibition will be accompanied by a major publication.
