Cleaning up around the apt and found this post card. My birthday was oct 4th, and one of my outstanding bosses debuted his film trailer for his work of art 'Girlstories' at a film festival later that month. The Store (1983), Wiseman's first color film, at first glance appears to depart from the typical "weighty" subject matter of most of his previous films. That, however, is deceptive. For while the institution under scrutiny, the world-famous Neiman-Marcus department store in Dallas, Texas, may seem to be light-weight material, Wiseman's treatment of the activities of store employees and the mostly wealthy customers ultimately reveals the shallow lives of America's economic elite and those who service them. Conspicuous consumption is everywhere in evidence. The clientele while away days in the store's dressing rooms, trying on expensive gowns and furs. A compliant group of saleswomen are led in smile exercises as they prepare to meet their condescending customers. The bourgeoisie and proletariat are complicit in this sordid dance of money and unproductive leisure. The Store stands in stark and powerful contrast to the despair depicted in Welfare.

plant house was great. surprised cuz i intended to simply see and photograph a frozen (ice cold weather, DUH) boathouse. many houses in the Plant Conservatory like: Cool Temperate, Science Plants, Palm House, Cool Genetics, COld Storage, Physiology House, Succulent House, Potting Room, and in the lobby a Gourd Art Show... WTF & whatintheHELL. It was Awesome. creative sculptures made out of vegetation. fences made out of manipulating branches and trees. i was blown away and it was freezing outside so it was very nice to stroll through the warm planthouses and feel almost sweaty as the staff emphatically recommended to me that i remove my winter coat. it didnt happen, coat stayed on. i snapped many cellFone pics with my ANDROID. hope you love exploiting my life by living vicariously thorough my blogs. maybe one day you also will get out of the house and walk around a hothouseplantgreenhouse. only God knows. BYE.

The first museum exhibition in the United States of the work of Sanja Iveković (b. 1949, Zagreb) covers four decades of the artist's remarkable career. A feminist, activist, and video pioneer, Iveković came of age in the post-1968 period, when artists broke free from mainstream institutional settings, laying the ground for a form of praxis antipodal to official art. Part of the generation known as the Nova Umjetnička Praksa (New Art Practice), Iveković produced works of cross-cultural resonance that range from conceptual photomontages to video and performance.

This exhibition brings together a historic group of single-channel videos and media installations, including Sweet Violence (1974), Personal Cuts (1982), Practice Makes a Master (1982/2009), General Alert (Soap Opera) (1995), and Rohrbach Living Memorial (2005). Among the 100 photomontages featured in the exhibition is Iveković's celebrated series Double Life (1975–76), for which the artist juxtaposed pictures of herself culled from her private albums with commercial ads clipped from the pages of women's magazines.

While in the 1970s Iveković probed the persuasive qualities of mass media and its identity-forging potential, after 1990—following the fall of the Berlin Wall, the disintegration of Yugoslavia, and the birth of a new nation—she focused on the transformation of reality from socialist to post-socialist political systems. Iveković offers a fascinating view into the official politics of power, gender roles, and the paradoxes inherent in society's collective memory. The exhibition will be accompanied by a major publication.

It was such a pleasure having you be a part of the festival this year.

The dust is finally settling from this past weekend. I just wanted to say thank you again for actualizing such a wonderful vision and sharing it with everyone this year at MONO NO AWARE V.

For us, it was a monumental year full of incredible performances. Everyone that I spoke to loved your performance. Someone came up to me and was saying how powerful they felt the white light was when it shown on its own. Framing the performers - as if cinema had come to life.

Iran court upholds sentence against filmmaker Panahi OA Tehran appeals court has upheld a six-year jail sentence/filmmaking ban

The verdict, handed down around two weeks ago, has not yet been carried out, the family said.

The government-run newspaper Iran confirmed the ruling in its Saturday edition, saying: “The charges he was sentenced for are acting against national security and propaganda against the regime.”

The daily also said that a six-year jail sentence against another Iranian filmmaker, Mohammad Rasoulof, was reduced to one year in the same appeal.

Panahi, 51, has won a slew of foreign awards for his films. But many are banned in Iran where authorities are unhappy with his portrayal of everyday life in the Islamic republic.

One of Panahi’s latest productions was a documentary entitled “This is not a Film,” depicting a day in his life as he waited to hear the verdict from the appeal. It was screened at the Cannes film festival in May.

Panahi’s family said the filmmaker was still free pending the imposition of the jail sentence.

Panahi’s lawyer, Farideh Ghairat, said: “We have no news. The verdict has not been confirmed to us.”

The appeals court upheld an initial sentencing of Panahi handed down in December 2010, when he was convicted of “propaganda against the system” for making a film about the unrest that followed the controversial re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in June 2009.

Rasoulof, 38, co-directed that film and received a similar sentence. The reason for the reduction of his jail term on appeal was not disclosed.

Neither Panahi nor Rasoulof were allowed to leave Iran to attend the Cannes film festival, where they both had movies screened. Rasoulof’s wife picked up his best-director prize in the Un Certain Regard section of the festival.

Panahi’s confirmed sentence orders him to six years behind bars, plus a 20-year ban on directing or writing for movies, and a 20-year ban on travel except for the Hajj holy pilgrimage to Mecca or for medical treatment.

After Dickinson's death, Lavinia Dickinson kept her promise and burned most of the poet's correspondence. Significantly though, Dickinson had left no instructions about the forty notebooks and loose sheets gathered in a locked chest. Lavinia recognized the poems' worth and became obsessed with seeing them published. She turned first to her brother's wife and then to Mabel Loomis Todd, her brother's mistress, for assistance. A feud ensued, with the manuscripts divided between the Todd and Dickinson houses, preventing complete publication of Dickinson's poetry for more than half a century.

Alauda Publications is proud to present the new edition ofElisabeth - I want to eat -, Mariken Wessels’ first photo book. The book was initially self-published by the artist in 2008 in a small edition and was widely acclaimed. It won the Silver Medal Book Award at the Fotofestival di Roma and was recently acquired by the MoMA collection in New York.

Elisabeth - I want to eat - consists of a collection of anonymous photographs, letters and postcards belonging to a young woman, which the artist stumbled upon in a shop in the Hendrik Jacobszstraat in Amsterdam. Wessels appropriates the found material in her own way, by photographing the images, creatively processing and arranging them, as well as occasionally adding her own material. The intensity and sensuality of the photographs are reminiscent of the work of master photographers like Gerard Fieret and Miroslaw Tichý. They depict a young woman defiantly posing in front of the camera, both figuratively and literally exposing herself. The black and white photographs are worn out, frayed by numerous scratches and dust particles, blending together both the exaltation and melancholy recorded in them. Apart from the photographs, the book carries a series of printed postcards and letters addressed to Elisabeth, from which the reader gradually infers that her life was thrown off track in some way.

New Notebook Journal for New Film

i began collecting my visual-sound-dialogue ideas for new film.

film will take place in a cottage and narrated in Celtic Irish (so far, until further notice).

WHATz THE FILM GONNA KINDA BE OR FEEL LIKE ???

Well, the Film is very strong in my head. Film will be entirely shot on Super8mm and hand-processed, then printed onto 16mm film prior to my sound design/dialogue insertion.

QUESTION: did someone just say that the new film idea is a JaneyiZd version of "A STOLEN LIFE" (the jacee duggard story)?

Joey, So much for a 600 mile wide behemoth spewing tornados - how was the storm for you???? I heard there've been better storms in teacups. The kids have been so concerned about you all they've been insisting on watching lots of news and now are up on what's going on in Libya! Infact they see a couple of images and go "oh, this is Libya" - crazy!

Pre-screening/Rough Cut: "GIRLSTORIES" (Closed Captioned for hearing impaired audiences)

Intense pre-screening sessions with deaf/hearing impaired lead actress Patricia. The goal was to present the rough cut of the film and also to see where the film stands concerning acceptance within the deaf community. Was I nervous...duh. Did I pass with thumbs high up ?

...DUH WINNING.

*** I have the cartoon ELOUSIE GOES TO SCHOOL playing on NETFLIX while I write up this BLOG 4 U. God bless prestige, adorable nannies and prep school culture. Cute cartoon. But now Back to the Blog Ms. Hedwig...

So YES sweetheart blog fan. It all went well. Surprised? Why? I love Patricia. She had so much informative feedback concerning CLOSED CAPTIONING style/possibilities, Special Education stigmas with educators, character development thoughts conveyed using Closed Captioned emotions, potential storyline "missing links", just an amazing screening session.

Everything was discussed using a RELAY service on her computer (an online interpreter), which made the process of our communication even stronger. Such a cool experience, this whole project.

Guerrilla filmmaking refers to a form of independent filmmaking characterized by low budgets, skeleton crews, and simple props using whatever is available. Often scenes are shot quickly in real locations without any warning, and without obtaining permission from the owners of the locations.

Guerrilla filmmaking is usually done by independent filmmakers because they don't have the budget to get permits, rent out locations, or build expensive sets. Also studios tend not to use guerrilla filmmaking tactics because they could be sued, fined, or get their reputation hurt.
