Miss Gulag, a female women's prison documentary

Through the prism of a beauty pageant staged by female inmates of a Siberian prison camp emerges a complex narrative of the lives of the first generation of women in Post-Soviet Russia. For these women, undoubtedly, life is harsh under the constant surveillance of UF-91/9, but it is no less so on the outside. Today they, their families, and loved ones are sustained by hope for a better life upon release.

Their survival is told from both sides of the fence. bye... bye.

Heath's notebook of divergent preparation

An artist’s sketchbook is a bound book with blank pages that artists use to keep visual records of observations, plans for projects, ideas and themes with which they are interested, and verbal, often personal, reflections.
Artists may incorporate some or all of these uses into their personal sketchbooks in order to best suit their needs as a divergent thinker.

privacy and development

“We were searching for real sincerity and simplicity, and we found these qualities in the yurodstvo [the holy foolishness] of punk. Passion, total honesty, and naïveté are superior to the hypocrisy, mendacity, and false modesty that are used to disguise crime.”
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Pussy Riot

When our sense of "personal" space has been violated and our feeling of "privacy" has become controlled by a source greater than we can control, a strategy must be devised. Inadequate direction requires orquestrated responsibility. To balance out the problem, an invasion should be met with a disclosure. And this disclosure should be just as upsetting to the status quo.

The Bromley Contingent

People need hard times and oppression to develop psychic muscles.
- Emily Dickinson
...after biopsies and a saline wash of her abdomen showed no signs of cancer, she was put on a maintenance chemotherapy treatment to prolong her remission, but she learned that her cancer had returned after a routine blood test showed her levels of the tumor marker CA-125 had increased. She was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for a CAT scan. Despite being fearful that she would never wake up, she was given a sedative but passed into a coma during the scan. She did not regain consciousness and died three days later from ovarian cancer at 6:20 am. About her death: She went in for the scan – but the people there could not keep her on the gurney. She was raving like a crazed woman – she knew they would give her morphine and was afraid she’d never regain consciousness. She kept getting off the cart as they were wheeling her out. Finally three people were holding her gently and saying, "Come on. We’re just going to go down and come back up." She kept saying, "Get me out, get me out!" She’d look at me and beg me, "Help me out of here. I’ve got to get out of here." And I’d tell her, "You’re okay. I know. I know."

They sedated her, and when she came back, she remained unconscious for three days. I stayed at her side late into the night, sometimes sleeping over. Finally a doctor told me to go home and get some sleep. At 4 am on Saturday, I heard a pounding on my door. It was an old friend, a surgeon, who told me, "Come on. It's time to go." When I got there, a night nurse, whom I still want to thank, had washed her and taken out all the tubes. She put a pretty yellow barrette in her hair. She looked like an angel. So peaceful. She was still alive, and as she lay there, I kissed her. But then her breathing became irregular, and there were long gasps and little gasps. Two hours after I arrived, she was gone. While she was conscious, I never said goodbye.  bye.

I used Crazy Glue to fix my refrigerator handle. My pinky got cemented into the back of my pants. I got trapped in the elevator. I hit the alarm for help with my tongue. The Super used a crowbar on my Levi's. I'm fine now. But thanks for askin'. Bye.

Homemade Books and Corruption Press Conferences

These are pages from Emily Dickinson’s herbarium, or homemade book of pressed plant specimens. Assembled when Dickinson was a 14-year-old student at Amherst Academy.  The book was used as her application to Harvard University, and she was denied admission. A spark lit the leaves of her intimate Cambridge desire and she began a new study (not widely known), but recently shared/disclosed to the Jane Public archives by embarrassed blood relatives. She studied organized small ring boxing corruption (in other words, cockfighting).

The combination of plant life study guides and Emily's interest in national boxing corruption should be interesting. Stay tuned even if you don't have money to bet. To hell with Cambridge ! And of course, the most important thing of all is when you are faced with a formidable challenge, "Knock yourself out" with it.

Freedom of the Press. hush, hush. Bye.
